WELLNESS/PREVENTION DIVISION
In a rapidly changing health care environment, mental health is quickly evolving into behavioral health, with a focus on prevention and wellness rather than simply on treatment following the development of a problem. The Scott Center wellness/prevention services focus on offering high quality, cutting edge, and comprehensive assessment which measures wellness in a variety of key areas. By improving wellness and developing improvements in behavioral, physical, and psychological functioning, the risk of developing specific medical illnesses and psychological problems can be greatly reduced.
Our wellness assessment measures an individual in three key dimensions of wellness. These include physical fitness, nutrition, and psychological resiliency. After reviewing wellness results with you, we help in developing a comprehensive wellness plan of action which involves identifying areas of weakness and provides personal coaching to improve functioning.
PHYSICAL FITNESS
Research has consistently linked those who are physically fit with a higher quality of life, improved health, decreased aging, stable mood, proper weight management, and other important markers for longevity and health. Quite simply, exercise is natures’ perfect medicine, and those who maintain physical fitness lead not only a higher quality of life, but age much more gracefully than those who do not. Physically fit individuals also have a significantly reduced chance of developing stress induced illnesses and physical problems. The Scott Center wellness assessment measures numerous factors related to physical fitness including cardiorespiratory fitness using VO2 testing, body composition, and strength. |

NUTRITIONAL FITNESS
It is well established that how we fuel ourselves on a daily basis not only influences our daily lives, but also speaks to our probability of developing illness. Nutrition plays a key role in providing the energy needed for the activities of life, but also can have a profound impact on mood as well. The Scott Center wellness assessment involves a comprehensive evaluation of nutritional intake, as well as measuring physical symptoms which might reflect nutritional deficiencies. Metabolic testing is also included, which provides an in-depth evaluation of resting metabolic rate so as to offer personalized metabolic data from which to develop appropriate nutritional recommendations.
PSYCHOLOGICAL FITNESS
Psychological resiliency is often an overlooked and underappreciated part of total wellness. How we deal with the demands of our lives and manage stress impacts wellness and either increases or decreases the risk for stress and behaviorally related illness. Building psychological skills not only improves quality of life, but also reduces the probability of developing a stress related illness. The Scott Center wellness assessment not only measures a number of psychological skills thought to be a sign of resiliency, but also provides direction in how to build and improve upon psychological abilities. Stress management techniques are also taught as an important aspect of this as well.
WELLNESS PLAN OF ACTION AND INDIVIDUAL COACHING
Upon completion of the wellness assessment and a review of each of the dimensions, our personal coaches can work with you in developing a comprehensive wellness treatment plan which focuses on areas of weakness and helps to bring your wellness into balance. We focus on deficiencies in each dimension, with direction and support in building wellness. Whether it involves improving physical fitness, addressing nutritional deficiencies, or building stress management techniques, our personal coaches are prepared to offer the highest level of personal attention to building wellness. We can also help you reach personal goals such as running your first 5K, completing your first triathlon, improving your cardiovascular fitness, boosting metabolism, sticking to a exercise routine, or any other goals you have in mind.
